United States v. Theodore F. Stevens

D.D.C. and DOJ Office of Professional Responsibility, 2009 to 2012

The Justice Department asked the court to set aside the verdict and dismiss the indictment with prejudice.

DOJ finding

Former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens was convicted in federal court. After post-trial review uncovered serious disclosure failures, Attorney General Eric Holder asked the court to set aside the verdict and dismiss the indictment with prejudice.

The Justice Department later told Congress that its Office of Professional Responsibility found violations of Brady, Giglio, DOJ policy, and a professional-conduct rule. They included failures to disclose exculpatory witness statements and a misrepresentation in a disclosure letter.
